Crow's feet
When we smile, we automatically raise the corners of our mouth. This causes a slight squint in our eyes, resulting in fine lines around the eyes, often referred to as “crow’s feet.” These lines are generally considered charming and authentic. However, as we age, these lines can remain visible even when our face is at rest. Over time, these expression lines become more permanent.

Treatment of fine lines around the eyes
An effective method for addressing these lines is the use of injections such as Botox or an equivalent. These are preparations based on botulinum toxin that act as muscle relaxants.
How the treatment is performed
A precision injection is administered to the side of the eye muscle, precisely where fine lines appear when smiling. Depending on your needs, 2 to 7 injections are administered per side.

Results of the treatment
The effects of Botox or its equivalent treatment become most noticeable after about 10 days. The muscles around the eyes become less active, making lines less noticeable when smiling.
Preparatory conversation for the treatment
Before the treatment begins, there is a consultation with the patient. It is important for the specialist to know:
- Previous experiences with this treatment.
- The products previously used.
- Satisfaction with previous results.
- The duration of previous results.
The patient is also encouraged to clearly state what they expect from the treatment, such as a natural-looking result or a firmer appearance.
Evaluation
Before the treatment, Dr. Kim Detollenaere assesses the face, specifically the depth and position of the crow’s feet. Additional facial features, such as the presence of a drooping eyelid or asymmetry, are also taken into account.
Determining the correct amount of injection
Based on a thorough evaluation and medical history of the patient, the specialist will recommend the most appropriate dosage.
Care after treatment
After the injection treatment, patients are advised to:
- Avoid makeup for 4 hours.
- Avoid massages on the same day.
- Avoid strenuous activities on the same day.
- Avoid lying down for 4 hours.
- Avoid acidic skin products for 24 hours.

FAQ
The treatment itself only takes 10 minutes. You will receive a few small injections on the side of the eyes. Pre-anaesthesia is absolutely not necessary for the treatment of crow’s feet.
The face is cleaned with chlorhexidine. The doctor may inject approximately 2-7 spots around the outer edge of each eye, then applies pressure with gauze. The procedure itself takes less than 10 minutes.
In general, crow’s feet treatment has a very low risk of complications. Headaches occur in approximately 10% of new users. Bruising occurs in a significant number of cases, but this disappears after a few days. Asymmetry: one side often responds better to treatment than the other, usually because the patient is asymmetric. Infection is a very rare complication, but always a possibility when the needle penetrates the skin. It is unlikely that the eyebrows and eyelids will droop during crow’s feet treatment. In fact, it is more common for the eyebrows to raise during treatment.
After the crow’s feet injections you should follow these instructions: Do not wear makeup for 4 hours Do not massage that day Do not do heavy exercise that day Do not lie down for 4 hours Stop your acidic products for 24 hours
Immediately after the eye wrinkle treatment, sometimes nothing is visible. Occasionally, there may be bruising, redness, or small bumps, which can resemble small mosquito bites and usually resolve quite quickly. Most people can get home from work during their lunch break and return to work without their colleagues noticing. The effect will only become apparent after 4 to 10 days.
The answer to this is very individual and depends on the patient’s metabolism, dose, placement, etc. Most common: 3-4 weeks: maximum effect… 8 weeks: movement begins to return 12 weeks: 50% of movement should be returned… 16 weeks: 80% of movement should be returned For most patients, this is very close to what happens.
Patients should return when range of motion has returned to 50% – 80%, i.e., somewhere between 3 and 4 months.
