Marionette lines

Marionette lines are caused by gravity, volume loss, and the natural aging process. These folds, located under the corners of the mouth, can sometimes give a sad expression. Fortunately, with fillers, we can reduce these signs of aging.

What are puppet lines?

Marionette lines are wrinkles that extend from the corners of the mouth to the jawline. Deep marionette lines can give the impression of drooping corners of the mouth, sometimes creating a sad expression, even if you feel very happy!
These lines are often caused by volume loss due to aging and are exacerbated by gravity.
Fortunately, marionette lines can be reduced by injecting fillers. This results in a radiant and cheerful appearance. Marionette lines are often an extension of the nasolabial fold, which extends from the nostrils to the corners of the mouth, and can also be treated with fillers.

What is the treatment for marionette lines?

Your appointment begins with a consultation, during which you’ll discuss your wishes and expectations, and Dr. Detollenaere will prepare you.
During the treatment, the desired amount of hyaluronic acid filler is injected into the treatment area using small needle injections. This fills wrinkles and reduces fine lines, effectively filling in the marionette lines. The entire marionette line treatment takes a maximum of 30 minutes.

The result of the puppet lines:

After the treatment, you’ll notice that your marionette lines have (almost) completely faded. This gives you a happier and more approachable appearance, which makes a significant difference! This effect lasts for approximately six to nine months, with optimal results visible after two weeks.

If you’re not (yet) completely satisfied, we recommend scheduling a follow-up appointment with Dr. Detollenaere within two to four weeks of your treatment. If you also suffer from dull, sagging skin due to the aging process, Profhilo may offer a suitable solution!

Aftercare for marionette lines:

After the treatment, you can move the injected areas normally. However, it is important not to massage these areas for the first 48 hours. You may experience some bruising or swelling after the treatment. Any bruising can be concealed with makeup for a few hours after the treatment, once the injection sites are closed.

In addition, it is advisable to avoid exercising for 48 hours after the treatment and to avoid saunas or tanning beds for two weeks. The treated skin may be extra sensitive to UV rays, which can affect the results.

FAQ

  1. Avoiding Permanent Fillers:
Permanent fillers can lead to complications, such as hardening, abscesses, and inflammation. In some cases, they cannot be removed and are therefore considered risky.
  2. Opting for Temporary Hyaluronic Acid Fillers:
Hyaluronic acid is a substance naturally present in our skin that contributes to its elasticity and hydration. The effect of these temporary fillers can vary from 6 to 24 months, as the body naturally breaks down this substance.
  3. Cost of Filler Treatment:
An average filler treatment costs between €280 and €400 for 1 ml. This price is based on various factors, including the products used, the duration of the consultation and treatment, and your specific wishes.
  4. Beware of Permanent and Cheap Fillers:
Very low prices can be an indication of uncertified products. These fillers often originate from Asia and carry serious risks.

It is crucial that a filler treatment is performed by a qualified and skilled physician. This professional must have in-depth knowledge of the products used, facial anatomy, various injection techniques, and the potential risks associated with the procedure.

In Belgium and the Netherlands, the law stipulates that only licensed physicians may perform filler treatments. This legal provision is in place to ensure patient safety, as serious complications can occur when the treatment is performed by someone without adequate medical training and knowledge of facial anatomy.

Unfortunately, there are cases where aestheticians or other non-medical professionals offer these treatments illegally. This can have disastrous consequences for the patient, including serious complications such as blindness and necrosis (tissue death). Therefore, it is essential to always verify the practitioner’s qualifications and authorizations before deciding on such a cosmetic procedure.

During a filler treatment, a thorough consultation is conducted. Your wishes and questions are discussed, and the feasibility of fulfilling these wishes is evaluated.

Most fillers contain a local anesthetic, which minimizes discomfort during the injections. The injections are administered using very fine needles and flexible microcannulas.

Immediately after the injections, pressure is applied to the treated area with gauze.

The duration of the treatment session varies, but is generally short and depends on the number of injections required.

You can generally resume your normal activities immediately after the procedure.

It is normal to experience some redness, bruising, and swelling after the injections. These side effects are generally temporary and usually disappear within 24 to 48 hours.

If desired, you can use cold packs to reduce swelling. These are available at the clinic.

Swelling may persist longer after treatment of the lips, nose, or tear trough than in other treated areas. If the symptoms do not subside, or if you notice any other reactions, we recommend contacting the Doctor Contour Clinic.

  • Cool
After your treatment, it is recommended to cool the treated area with ice packs. Change these packs every 10 minutes, but do not place them directly on the skin. Avoid strenuous activity for 24 hours and avoid exposure to intense heat, such as a visit to a tanning bed or sauna.

  • Calm

Try to avoid pressure on the treated areas for the first few nights after treatment. If possible, sleep on your back. You can take paracetamol for pain relief, but always follow your doctor’s advice.

  • Clear

Avoid alcohol for 24 hours and avoid the use of AHA, Retinol/Vitamin C therapies, or oil-based makeup within the same period.

For one week following treatment, you should avoid facials, cleansing, glycolic or AHA peels, IPL or energy treatments, and microdermabrasion, unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Do not massage the treated area unless specifically directed to do so by your doctor.

Ideally, you should avoid applying makeup until the day after the procedure.

For patients receiving lip fillers, it is recommended not to smoke for at least 24 hours after the injections – a perfect time to consider quitting smoking altogether.

Also, avoid applying lipstick during these 24 hours.

Additional advice for patients with nose fillers: It is recommended not to wear glasses for 24 hours after the injections.
