Cheekbone Augmentation
Due to the influence of social media and the decreasing taboos around cosmetic treatments, cheekbone fillers are becoming increasingly popular. The midface plays a crucial role in our overall appearance and how we perceive aging. Prominent cheekbones are a key component of an attractive facial profile. As we age, loss of volume in the cheeks is often one of the first signs of aging.

- Treatment time: 20 minutes
- Effect: 9 to 12 months
Goals of Cheekbone Fillers
There are mainly two reasons why people choose cheekbone fillers:
- Counteracting aging: As we age, patients not only lose volume in the cheeks, but bone resorption also occurs, leading to less support for facial tissues and the formation of nasolabial folds and wrinkles.
- Aesthetic enhancement: Younger patients often opt for cheekbone fillers to achieve their beauty ideals and to accentuate their cheekbones.
What is possible with cheekbone fillers?
- Cheekbone Augmentation: Ideal for patients with flat or underdeveloped cheeks.
- Improving Skin Condition: Cheekbone fillers can reduce wrinkles and restore volume loss in the cheeks.
- Reshaping the Cheeks: The treatment can be tailored to add volume where needed, depending on the patient’s anatomy.
- Anti-Aging: Fillers can restore facial firmness lost due to bone resorption and volume loss.
- Correcting Asymmetry: Many people naturally have some asymmetry in their cheeks, which can be adjusted with fillers.

FAQ
The doctor carefully evaluates the patient’s face and determines the optimal dose based on a medical history and thorough examination.
If a patient has previously experienced complications with fillers, has a limited budget, or prefers a more subtle effect, a lower starting dose may be chosen.
The amount of filler needed for the cheeks can vary significantly. While some patients are satisfied with just 1 ml, others may require up to 4 ml to achieve the desired result.
At Doctor Contour Clinic, we generally follow a phased approach. We usually start by injecting a maximum of 2 ml into the cheekbones. A follow-up appointment is scheduled a few weeks later, during which additional injections can be administered if necessary until the intended result is achieved.
Many patients have noted: “I actually quite liked the swelling after the last treatment and was a bit disappointed when it went down.” In such cases, we advise the patient to proceed with an extra 2 ml injection, repeating this process until the swelling is no longer considered desirable. 🙂
The treatment is usually not painful, thanks to the anesthetic already present in the fillers. If a cannula is used, a local anesthetic can be applied before the procedure begins. Ice is often used to increase comfort and minimize bruising.
Before the treatment, there is a detailed discussion about expectations and desired results. The doctor, with a keen aesthetic eye, then advises which techniques would be optimal. After this consultation, the face is disinfected, and the filler is carefully injected.
Expect a visit of approximately 30 to 45 minutes, including the detailed consultation. If multiple fillers are being administered, the treatment time may vary.
Some redness and swelling may occur. In a few cases, a small bruise may appear at the injection site. Although the cheeks may initially appear sharper, this effect usually softens after about two days, resulting in a more natural appearance.
The procedure carries some risks, such as bruising, temporary swelling, rare infections, and very rarely, necrosis or blindness. At Doctor Contour Clinic, the team is equipped to respond quickly to any complications should they arise.
After the treatment, it is recommended to avoid wearing makeup for at least 4 hours, strenuous activity on the day of the treatment, acidic products for 24 hours, and saunas or hot yoga for one week.
The results are visible almost immediately, but may initially be accompanied by swelling, which gradually subsides. Any asymmetry visible right after the treatment will usually diminish within a few weeks.
This varies per individual, but generally, the results of the treatment remain visible for about 8 months to 1.5 years. Many factors can influence this, such as the patient’s metabolism, the dosage used, and the specific product applied.
